About the Deadliest Catch

The Deadliest Catch is a Discovery Channel original series which documents the lives of Alaskan crab fishermen as they make their dangerous journeys across the Bering Sea to find crab. The show follows them for their search for either Alaskan King Crab or Opilio Crab (much smaller than King Crab). The show is titled Deadliest Catch for a reason: it's long been known that the job of a crab fisherman is by far the most dangerous in the world. With an injury rate of almost 100%, it's no wonder why the show is so intriguing.

Unlike other reality shows, Deadliest Catch shows the drama of a real working-man's struggle in the crab fishing business. They fish with pods, which are cages baited with cod or some other sort of meat and then dropped to the bottom of the sea. They fish with dozens of these pods and check them regularly. They fish until they've filled their hull with crab. Sometimes that may take as little as a couple of days, but most of the time they fish right up until the last hour of the season. They can't afford not to meet their quota. The crab fishing season only lasts a few short weeks a year. And if these men don't make their money in these weeks, then they'll go hungry all year.

Deadliest Catch is unlike any other show on television. The blue collar drama of death-defying crab fishingh as captured audiences around the world and will continue to do so just as long as there are crab to be caught.
